Nerdcore was a popular blog . The main audience for the blog was nerds .

Content

The content of the blog cannot be clearly defined. Often curiosities and finds are linked and commented on by the operator René Walter. So he posts link collections almost every day. In a post on his blog he defined the topics of the blog as " Internet memes , [...] photography , design , music ". In general, topics related to pop culture are covered.

history

In March 2005 René Walter founded Nerdcore .

In February 2008 René Walter received a warning (and a claim for damages) because of a screenshot of an edition of the Plusminus program . The program itself dealt with warnings from Folkert Kniepers, Kniepers was shown on the screenshot. Thereupon Walter replaced the picture and hired a lawyer. After a settlement according to which Walter “may never publish a Knieper photo again” , the claim for compensation was dropped.

In 2009 René Walter won the design award Silver Lead Award for the best weblog 2009 with Nerdcore.de.

In September 2009, René Walter triggered one of the first German Internet memes and a flash mob by posting a picture . After a photo of an election campaign poster for the CDU with Angela Merkel and the inscription: The Chancellor is coming was posted on Nerdcore.de , on which someone had sarcastically written the slogan “... and all so ' Yeaahh !'” With a marker . In the following days, nationwide flash mobs were organized at election campaign events of the CDU, the flash mobs were made the topic of the day's topics.

After René Walter criticized Euroweb Internet GmbH in a post in 2006 and called their "products" with the words "inferior" , "a disproportionate amount of scrap" and "deserve a golden nose with dirt" , he was given the end of July 2010 by Euroweb was warned on the grounds that his statements were of "defamatory character". The factual background was the controversial business practices of Euroweb, which, for example, the Hildesheim Regional Court described in one case as "fraudulent".

Walter ignored the warning, whereupon there were legal proceedings at the Berlin Regional Court in August 2010 at the instigation of Euroweb Internet GmbH . According to §§ 936, 922 Abs. 1, 331 Abs. 1 ZPO the court issued a default judgment in favor of Euroweb Internet GmbH in the interim injunction procedure according to §§ 935 ff. ZPO , because Walter did not appear for the oral hearing. He also did not react to the judgment and did not pay the procedural costs incurred and imposed on him by the court . On behalf of Euroweb Internet GmbH, the Tiergarten district court as an enforcement court (Section 828, Paragraph 1 ZPO) then seized the domain . Following a ruling by the Federal Court of Justice , the domain represents an "other property right" that can be seized in accordance with Section 857 (1) ZPO. Walter himself wrote in a tweet " To clarify: Euroweb is right and that is all justiciable whatever and it will be GREAT! " .

In a statement that Euroweb Internet GmbH published under the domain, it stated that the seizure had come about due to a foreclosure due to the lack of reimbursement of legal costs . In addition, an auction of the domain for a "charitable purpose" is planned. The proceeds should go in equal parts to Wikipedia and the Freischreiber Association . In the meantime, Wikipedia has discussed whether the donation should be refused. The freelancer had already declared the planned non-acceptance of a possible Euroweb donation.

The lawyer and blogger Udo Vetter published a post on his blog in which he assumed that Euroweb Internet GmbH would have to give the proceeds over and above the debt to René Walter anyway and was therefore not entitled to donate these proceeds. This representation of the legal situation was contradicted by other parties, since Euroweb Internet GmbH received the domain instead of payment ("in lieu of performance") and Euroweb Internet GmbH was therefore not satisfied with sales proceeds.

From January 17 to January 21, 2011, according to DENIC eG, Euroweb Internet GmbH was the domain owner of nerdcore.de. After René Walter had initiated legal action, Denic eG listed him as an authorized person in their directory. According to Walter, Denic eG had come to the conclusion, after examining the seizure order obtained against him, that it did not carry the description of the domain. In a press release dated January 22, 2011, Euroweb Internet GmbH accused Denic eG of deliberately violating the law.

In the meantime, the domain was in transit. According to lawblog.de, it is now known that Euroweb Internet GmbH has given an estimated value of 100 euros for the domain “nerdcore.de” in court, while the actual value is estimated by experts at an amount of over 50,000 euros.

The domain Nerdcore.de is now owned by René Walter again.

On February 26, 2018, when visiting the domain nerdcore.de, only the message "Game over. 2005 - 2018" appeared. On the same day, Walter also deactivated the blog's Twitter user account. There is no official statement about the future of nerdcore. After that the page was available again.

Between November 1, 2018 and November 6, 2018, the blog was again temporarily inaccessible. On April 17, 2020, René Walter's page was closed again with reference to an incident from 2018 and has not been accessible since then.
