The Nerl ( Russian Нерль ) is a right tributary of the Volga in the Yaroslavl Oblast and the Tver Oblast .
The nerl has its origin in the Somino lake . This is fed by the 9 km long Vjoksa , which forms the outflow of the Pleschtschejewo lake . It flows mainly in a westerly direction and flows after 112 km at Sknjatino into the Uglich reservoir , through which the Volga flows in a northerly direction. It drains an area of 3270 km². It is covered by a layer of ice in winter between November and April. The annual runoff is dominated by the spring flood . The mean discharge 55 km above the mouth is 12.8 m³ / s. The most important tributaries of the Nerl are the Kubr and Wjulka from the left and the Sablja from the right.
