The Bufleben – Großenbehringen ( Nessetalbahn ) line was a branch line in Thuringia . It branched off the Gotha – Leinefelde railway line in Bufleben and led via Friedrichswerth to Großenbehringen .

history

Piglet tax of the 172 series in Friedrichswerth

The line was opened on May 1, 1890. After the Second World War, the line was closed on September 15, 1947 and then dismantled as a reparation payment .

In order to connect the Soviet military training area Kindel to the railway network, the line to Friedrichswerth was rebuilt and an extension to the military training area. This section was put into operation on October 10, 1954, the route between Friedrichswerth and Behringen was not rebuilt. After the withdrawal of the Soviet troops, the connection to the military training area was no longer required. Freight traffic was stopped on December 31, 1994.

Passenger traffic was canceled on May 26, 1995. On June 22, 1995, the Federal Railway Authority approved the closure, which was then completed on September 28, 1995. The only operating point that was occupied until the last day of rail traffic was the Brüheim-Sonneborn station, which had been demoted to a barrier post. Even ticket sales were still possible. The maximum line speed at this point in time was 30 km / h, there were numerous slow-speed areas (La spots).

The integration of the Bufleben station was removed with the upgrading of the Gotha – Bad Langensalza line. In December 2007, dismantling work began on the track system. The Nessetal cycle path will be created on the route . In 2011 the first construction phases between Goldbach and the Eisenach-Kindel airfield were completed.

Vehicle use

The route became known through the use of the AT 581-616 series battery-powered railcars .

In the last years of operation, railcars of the DR class 171/172 (DB class 771/772) were used.
