Location of Behringen in Hörselberg-Hainich

Behringen is a district of the Hörselberg-Hainich community in the Wartburg district in Thuringia . Until the voluntary merger with the then municipality Hörselberg in December 2007, Behringen was the main town of the political municipality of the same name formed on July 1, 1999. This included the previously independent villages of Craula , Reichenbach , Tüngeda and Wolfsbehringen at the Hainich National Park . Behringen has 1492 inhabitants (as of June 2018).

history

The region around Behringen was the old kingdom. At the beginning of the 9th century, Behringen was first mentioned in a list of the goods lent by Archbishop Lullus († 786) of Mainz for the monastery of Hersfeld von Free. In a deed of donation dated May 18, 874, Baringe, along with other 116 places in Thuringia, is mentioned as the Fulda Abbey. Archbishop Liubert zu Mainz as well as Abbot Sigehard zu Fulda asserted the right to raise the tithe for themselves. The dispute over this was decided by King Ludwig the German (840–876) at the court of Ingelheim in favor of the Fulda Abbey.

From 1170 to 1393 the lords of Behringen were fiefdoms, later the lords Gansauge , von Cölleda, von Greußen and Hörselgau. After that, the Lords of Treffurt exercised the bailiff's rights. In 1305 they passed on to the gentlemen von Wangenheim , who were then owners in Behringen until 1945.

Since 1992 there has been a partnership with Sitterswald , a district of the Kleinblittersdorf community in Saarland.

Community structure

The municipality of Behringen was created on July 1, 1950 through the merger of the towns of Großenbehringen , Oesterbehringen and Wolfsbehringen. On January 1, 1957, Wolfsbehringen left this community and became independent again. On July 1, 1999, the Behringen administrative community (consisting of the communities of Behringen, Craula, Reichenbach, Tüngeda and Wolfsbehringen) was converted by the legislature into a unitary community of Behringen in accordance with Section 35 of the ThürGNGG. This went up on December 1, 2007 in the Hörselberg-Hainich community.

Behringen also included Hütscheroda and today's desert areas of Heßwinkel and Riede .
