The village of Bolleroda is located in the west of the municipality Hörselberg-Hainich, about 7 km northeast of Eisenach and is protected in a depression in the upper reaches of the Böber , a tributary of the Nesse . The district borders in the north on Berka vor dem Hainich , in the northeast on the Hainich National Park with the former military training area Kindel , in the east on the district Großenlupnitz in the southeast and south on Beuernfeld . In the southwest and west there are corridor boundaries with the Eisenach districts of Hötzelsroda and Berteroda . Bolleroda is National Park community of Hainich National Park . Since January 2010 the BAB 4 has been running not far from the town. The closest junction is at Großenlupnitz and is also the junction with the B 84 to Eisenach, Behringen and Bad Langensalza . The location itself is reached via the country road 2113, which continues from the northern exit of the village as an unpaved road to Berka v. d. Hainich leads.

history

During the Saxon War , an uprising by Thuringian and Saxon nobles against King Henry IV , an important military road ran across the Kindel. Not far from Bad Langensalza, the Battle of Homburg an der Unstrut took place in 1075 , during which the majority of the villages and castles on the southern edge of the Hainich were destroyed by fighting or plundered when the troops withdrew. The place Bolleroda was close to the old escort road from Eisenach to Bad Langensalza. In the Middle Ages, there was also a trade route in the direction of Behringen via Hötzelsroda and Bolleroda; it is still easy to follow in the area through a striking poplar avenue. The Flurname Dermeröder Berg points to a location in the corridor Ortswüstung .

In 1218, Saint Louis gave the nunnery St. Katharinen in Eisenach for its possessions in the village of Bolleroda. At the time of the Reformation , Georg von Harstall was the tenant of the Bolleroda estate and paid rent to the monastery for it. In 1754 the 23-house village had to pay hereditary interest to the Trenkelhof estate .

Even before the beginning of the Second World War , an approximately 300 hectare military training area was built on the Künkel. The military area initially served as a testing and shooting range for artillery pieces manufactured in Eisenach . After the war, the Kindel firing range was expanded and handed over to the group of the Soviet armed forces in Germany as a tank firing range. For the population of the surrounding communities, this military area meant severe psychological stress for decades. Not far from the Bolleroda location, warning signs still mark the area of the soil contaminated with ammunition.

On February 25, 1994, the communities of Beuernfeld and Bolleroda were incorporated into the community of Großenlupnitz, which in 1996 became part of the Hörselberg community , which existed until 2007.

108 inhabitants currently live in Bolleroda (as of July 2007). The place Bolleroda belongs to the parish of Beuernfeld and has no place of worship itself.
