history

Jewish residents have been recorded in Thionville since the 14th century. The synagogue, built in 1805, was replaced in 1882 by a new building, which was built according to a design by the Karlsruhe architect Ludwig Levy . This neo-Romanesque synagogue was destroyed by the German occupiers in 1940 . In 1956 a new building was erected on the same site, which tries to take up some forms of the old synagogue.
