New Synagogue (Flehingen)
The New Synagogue at Gochsheimer Strasse 14 in Flehingen , a district of the municipality of Oberderdingen in the district of Karlsruhe in northern Baden-Württemberg , was built in 1873/74 and demolished at the end of April 1940.
history
Since the old synagogue was too small, the Jewish community in Flehingen intended to build a new one. At a community meeting in October 1862, a majority decided an annual contribution of 500 guilders per family for the construction of a new synagogue. In December 1872 the plans for the new building were available, which were approved by the Bretten district office . The new synagogue was inaugurated on May 1, 1874.
National Socialist Persecution
On the morning of November 10, 1938, around 9 a.m., the synagogue was set on fire by SA or SS men. The Torah scrolls and all furnishings were destroyed, the synagogue building burned down completely.
A few months after the fire, the property with the synagogue ruins was sold to private individuals from Flehingen, who had the remains of the building demolished at the end of April 1940.
