history

Graves of the cemetery
The largely empty interior of the cemetery

The old cemetery on Vogelsangweg was largely occupied until the end of the 19th century, so a replacement plot of land had to be found. It was not until 1928 that the Münden Jewish community was able to acquire suitable land about two kilometers from the city center for a new cemetery. It was inaugurated in 1932 and 7 graves were dug on it until the parish was destroyed in 1942  .

The cemetery was repeatedly desecrated between 1979 and the 1980s. Young people under the direction of the Münden City Youth Association and with the support of the City of Münden have restored it. The cemetery is - like the old cemetery - owned by the regional association of the Jewish communities of Lower Saxony .
