Location and surroundings

The site is located northeast of Einbeck's old town at the former Ostertor . The tracks of the Ilmebahn run between the old town and the town hall . On the opposite side is the Josefskirche and the park of the former Alexandr pen . The east-facing forecourt of the town hall was declared Keene Square in 2012, after the twin town Keene .

history

The building was used around 1869 as barracks for the Prussian Army in the district for the XI. Army corps erected at the Ostertor of the city fortifications . It was the first barracks in the province of Hanover . The building was used for military purposes until 1896, then as a vocational school until 1906. In 1907 Stukenbrok bought the building, had it expanded on the west side and from then on used it as the company's office building. It later became part of the Heidemann company, which, like Stukenbrok, produced bicycles. Heidemann switched production to auto parts, expanded the plant with part of the Borgward workforce to include the Rotenburg location and relocated production in Einbeck to the western industrial area of the city. Heidemann sold the founding location to an investor in 1995 and the other locations to Dura Automotive Systems in 1999 . In 1996 the investor had the building renovated inside. In 1997, the administration and political bodies moved here from the Old Town Hall after a lease had been signed with the investor. In 2015, the majority of the council voted for the purchase of the building.

architecture

It is a multi-storey half - timbered house . The roof is covered with tiles, which ends on the east side in the manner of a bell tower and has a clock as well as other elements such as some dormers. The facades are covered with slate , with two-tone patterns resulting in patterns. The western extension results in a building complex in the shape of a horseshoe.
