20 New Guinea Mark of the New Guinea Company (gold, 1895)

The New Guinea mark was an official currency in the German colony of German New Guinea from 1894 to 1911 .

In 1887 the Goldmark was officially introduced in German New Guinea . After lengthy negotiations, in 1894 the New Guinea Company was given permission to mint its own coins. From then on, these New Guinea coins were permitted means of payment with the same value alongside the imperial coins. When the administration of the colony in New Guinea was taken over by the German Empire on April 1, 1899 , it was decided not to produce any more New Guinea coins. On April 15, 1911 , these coins were finally suspended.

In addition to German New Guinea, the colonies of German East Africa and Kiautschou were also allowed to mint their own coins.
