The Neuhof ( Czech : Nový dvůr ) in the park of the Valtice Castle (German: Feldsberg ) was a model property on the Liechtenstein estates and is now part of the Lednice-Valtice UNESCO World Heritage Site in the Czech Republic .

Geographical location

The Neuhof is located about 300 meters south of the fish ponds , the two lock parks of Lednice separate and Valtice, in the district Charvátská Nova Ves ( Oberthemenau ). The Boří les ( Theimwald ) extends to the south .

history

A very practical aspect of the Enlightenment was the topos "Mustergut". The Neuhof was built from 1809 and replaced a previous facility in the same place in 1810. Merino sheep were initially kept here. The northwest building was not added until 1820. Swiss cows were kept here. In the second half of the 19th century the Neuhof was used for breeding thoroughbred horses .

Building

The design for the Neuhof comes from Joseph Hardtmuth . The facility stands on a rectangular floor plan: four buildings surround a farmyard: the southwest is the barn, the northwest is the sheepfold, the southeast is the residential building and the northeast - added in 1820 based on a design by Joseph Franz Engel - a stable for originally 20 Swiss people Cows and a central domed hall. This had a glazed view into the cowshed and was used for the grand breakfast, where the gentlemen could watch the milking and drink the fresh milk . This building with a cowshed replaced a large gate towards the fish ponds. The buildings are designed in the classical style and in their function represent a mixture of representation and actual agriculture.
