Neurhede is a district in the southwest of the municipality of Rhede (Ems) in the Emsland district in Lower Saxony .

Geographical location
Neurhede lies between Leer and Meppen , right on the Dutch border. Neurhede has 471 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2014) and covers an area of 5.95 km².
Neighboring communities
It borders in the north on the district Rhede, in the east on the district Borsum , in the south on the municipality Heede in the integrated municipality Dörpen and in the west on the Netherlands . The Dutch border town is called Bourtange and belongs to the municipality of Westerwolde .
history
Neurhede was founded on July 3, 1788, when 37 farmers south of Rhede founded a bog colony in the Bourtanger bog .
On January 1, 1973, the former joint municipality of Rhede was converted into a unified municipality. The once independent municipality of Neurhede became part of today's municipality of Rhede.
