content

Neurochlitz in the Uckermark is the youngest town in the state of Brandenburg , founded on October 7, 1949 , Republic Day , a place that was built from nothing in the post-war years. Expellees from Silesia and East Prussia should find their new home here.

70 years after the place was founded, the film follows the traces of construction and life in the place. It portrays people who helped to build the village from 1949 and people who shape the place today. Stories of new settlers are told, of the difficult beginning, of financial difficulties and meager life, of everyday life in the GDR and political upheavals.

Information is provided by the former mayor Wilfried Burkhardt, Karin Gerstner, Jürgen Bülow, Sigrid Schulz, the married couple Annelies and Günther Wenzel and the historian Reinhard Schmook from the Oderland Museum.
