The Neusser Eishockey Verein e. V. (short: "Neusser EV" or "NEV") is an ice hockey club from Neuss . He has been playing in the Oberliga West since 2010 .

history

1973 to 1989 - "NSC"

In 1973, Neusser SC established the tradition of ice hockey in Neuss. The game was started in the 1975/76 season, the men's team played from 1986/87 to 1988/89 in the 2nd Bundesliga . The former German national goalkeeper Helmut de Raaf (114 international matches) and the German national player Mark MacKay (90 games, 13 goals) began their careers in Neuss . After the founding club in 1973, first had to start in the regional league, managed the Neuss SC in the following seasons of promotion to the Oberliga .

After eight years in the third-highest German division, at the end of the 1985/86 season the promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga was made perfect. Another three years followed before the NSC had to stop playing in the 1988/89 season .

1989 to 1995 - "NEC"

After the Neusser SC, the Neusser EC continued the game, whose men's team initially played in the Regionalliga-West. In the 1992/93 season , the team reached the athletic qualification for the league. As a newcomer, the Neuss team made it through to the second highest German division, the 1st League North .

The equally successful women's team of the NEC won the German championship in 1992/93 under the direction of Thomas Althausen and Uli Hecht . The era of the Neusser EC ended in April 1995. Shortly before the club went bankrupt, it reached the second round of the play-offs, which was a great success for the NEC in view of the financial possibilities at the time.

Since 1995 - "NEV"

The Neusser EV was founded in 1995 as the successor to the bankrupt Neusser EC. The newly founded club signed nine ex-Neussers and also nominated some juniors for the first team. Consequently, the NEV had to compete in the regional league. There the team remained without defeat and thus rose to the association league, which could then be skipped at the request of the LEV NRW.

In the first regional league season, the NEV only finished fifth after the preliminary round, but submitted an application to the regional association to be allowed to play in the regional league cup. Despite the lack of athletic qualifications for this round, the application was granted. After the first day of play, some clubs appealed against this decision and were partially right. The NEV then had to compete in the regional league cup and in the qualifying round for the regional league. Those in charge of the Neuss ice hockey club only succeeded in doing this because the juniors were then registered to play. So it was decided at short notice which players would play where.

The most successful season of the Neusser EV was the 2005/2006 season , when the NEV became the undefeated champions of the Regionalliga North Rhine-Westphalia and qualified for the league on March 24, 2006 with a final victory over the Herner EG Blizzards . This opportunity for advancement was not taken due to the lack of financial resources.

While the NEV reached the promotion round in the 2007/08 season , but only occupied the penultimate place there, the team was restructured. In the summer of 2008, many players who had previously wore the NEV jersey were signed up. As a result, the Neusser reached the play-off semi-finals of the Regionalliga in the 2008/09 season , where the club, however, lost in two games against the later promoted, the EHC Dortmund .

For the 2010/11 season , the team rose to the newly founded Oberliga West .
