Neuwiedia Inae is a kind of the genus Neuwiedia in the family of orchid (Orchidaceae). The herbaceous plants come from Borneo .

description

Neuwiedia inae grows up to 55 cm. The roots have a diameter of 3 mm. The leaves are lanceolate to linear. The smallest leaves measure 1.7 cm long by 0.4 cm wide, they can be up to 40 cm long and 4.7 cm wide. There are nine to 27 leaf veins, seven of which are clearly visible. The upper leaves are hairy, especially at the base and along the leaf margins. The longest hair is glandular hair 0.25 mm in length, but most hairs have no gland and are shorter.

The inflorescence is a terminal cluster , it is up to 6 cm long and thus remains shorter than the leaves. Flowering plants were found in February. One inflorescence contains about 35 flowers . They are 15 mm tall and their color is white. Inflorescence axis, bracts and petals are hairy. The bracts are oval to oblong-oval, they end pointedly drawn out, their length is 3 to 10 mm, the width 2 to 3 mm. The flower stalk is 3 mm long and 0.7 mm in diameter, it is very sparsely hairy. The rounded, also sparsely hairy ovary measures 3 mm in length and 3 mm in diameter. The petals are all quite similar, but there is a very slight differentiation between the two lateral and central petals of a circle. The sepals are hairy on the outside, elongated in shape, the two lateral ones are 6.4 mm long and 3 mm wide. The third sepal is narrower and longer, 7 × 2.5 mm. The petals are provided with a longitudinal keel on the outside, this is hairy. They are obovate in shape, the sides are 6 mm long and 3.5 mm wide. The middle petal, the lip , is hardly different, at 3.5 mm it is slightly narrower than the other two inner petals. All petals have a small, 0.2 to 0.5 mm long attached tip, which is smaller in the sepals than in the petals. The column consists of three stamens and the stylus , the mm over a length of 1 are fused with each other on the base. The free part of the stamens has a flattened triangular cross section, it measures 0.5 mm in length. The anthers are oval, the lateral ones 2.5 mm long and 1.2 mm wide, the middle one with 1.8 mm a little wider. The free part of the stylus measures 4 mm in length and thus protrudes over the stamens by about 1 mm. The scar is three-lobed, with a diameter of 0.5 mm it is only slightly wider than the stylus, which has a diameter of 0.4 mm.

Occurrence

Neuwiedia inae grows in western Borneo. The locations are in untouched forests at an altitude of 750 meters. Averyanov reported occurrences in Vietnam, but in a more recent publication he classifies these plants as Neuwiedia Zollingeri var. Balansae . Neuwiedia Zollingeri var. Balansae is seen as a synonym for Neuwiedia singapureana .

Systematics and botanical history

Neuwiedia inae was first described by Eduard Ferdinand de Vogel in 1969 . He named the species after his wife, Ina Ravestijn. It differs from the species Neuwiedia borneensis and Neuwiedia griffithii by the presence of glandular hairs, the more delicate inflorescence and the rounded ovary.
