New Effington is a village in Roberts County in the US state of South Dakota . New Effington has 233 inhabitants on an area of 0.7 km².

history

Around 1911 there were rumors that a railway line would run through the area of what was then "Effington", about five miles northeast of what would later become New Effington. The farmers in the area were offered to support this venture with US $ 200 per quarter . The offer was accepted several times because it offered the farmers the prospect of being able to transport their products more easily over longer distances. In 1913 the railway line was built, which led from Fairmont in North Dakota to Veblen in South Dakota. However, this was southwest of the original settlement. Its residents moved in the direction of the railway line and the place was now called New Effington.
