New England Central Railroad

The New England Central Railroad (NECR) is a regional railroad company in Connecticut , Massachusetts , Vermont and New Hampshire ( USA ) as well as in Québec ( Canada ) with headquarters in St. Albans .

history

The company was set up on February 4, 1995 as a subsidiary of RailTex , and took ownership of the Central Vermont Railway from the Canadian National Railway . The main line of the railway, which is over 600 kilometers long, runs from New London (Connecticut) via Palmer (Massachusetts) , Brattleboro (Vermont), Claremont (New Hampshire) and Montpelier (Vermont) to Cantic (Québec) . It also has branches in Vermont from Montpelier Junction to Barre and Essex Junction to Burlington . The NECR operates freight traffic on these routes. The Vermonter , an Amtrak express train , uses the main route between East Northfield and St. Albans . In 2000 RailTex and with it NECR were taken over by RailAmerica .

Traction vehicles

In 2007 the railway company had 33 EMD locomotives available, eleven of which were leased. This fleet consisted of two SD9M , 19 GP38 , three GP40 , two SD40 , four SD40-2 , one GP15-1 and two GP40-2W , four of which were GP38 and the SD40-2, GP15-1 and GP40-2W are leased.
