New Milton is a market town (market town or minor town) and a larger civil parish with about 25,700 inhabitants in the New Forest district in the county of Hampshire in the south of England on the English Channel . The hamlets of Ashley , Bashley , Barton-on-Sea and Wootton belong to the place .

location

New Milton is located about 170 kilometers (driving distance) southwest of London on the southwestern edge of the former royal hunting ground and today's New Forest National Park . It is located about twelve kilometers east of Bournemouth . The A337 road runs through the community via Lymington to Southampton. A stop on the South Western Main Line from London to Weymouth is in the city center.

history

In the Domesday Book of 1085/1086 the place is mentioned as Mildeltune . Earthworks from the time from the 9th century show a settlement with numerous craftsmen.
