The season 2017 was the thirteenth season of the New Zealand Ice Hockey League , the highest New Zealand Ice Hockey League . Champions were the Southern Stampede for the fifth time in the club's history , making them New Zealand's record champions.

Hometowns of the teams for the 2017 season

In the regular season, each of the five teams played a total of 16 games. The two best-placed teams qualify for the championship finals, which are played in the best-of-three mode. Each team receives three points for a win after regular time, two points for a win after overtime, one point for a loss after overtime and zero points for a loss after regular time.

The finals between the Southern Stampede and the West Auckland Admirals were scheduled for August 19-25, 2017. A possibly necessary play-off should have taken place on August 26, 2014, but was not needed because the Stampede had already prevailed after two games.
