Next is an American R&B band consisting of founding members RL Huggar and Terry Brown.

history

Next was founded in 1996 by RL Huggar and brothers Terry and Raphael Brown. They were brought together by the Browns' uncle, who was a gospel choir director . They started performing under the name Straight4ward . The band was trained and organized for a while by Ann Nesby, a member of the Sounds of Blackness group .

Next were discovered in her hometown of Minneapolis , Minnesota by producer and DJ artist KayGee , member of the group Naughty by Nature . They signed a recording deal with KayGee's record company Divine Mill and later with Arista Records .

With their debut single Butta Love they made it into the top 20 of the US charts straight away. With Too Close they followed up with a hit that not only made it to number 1 in their home country, but also made it into the charts internationally. The third release from the double platinum album Rated Next with the title I Still Love You also reached the Top 20. With the second album Welcome II Nextasy , they were able to build on their success in 2000, the single Wifey reached number 7 However, the interest grew more and more and they did not succeed in another hit parade.

In 2001 the British boy band Blue covered their hit Too Close and brought it to number 1 in the UK charts.
