The Neye is a right tributary of the Wupper . It rises near the village of Dornbach in Halver , quickly forms the border with Wipperfürth and flows into the Wupper near the main town in Wipperfürth. Shortly after the confluence with the second Quellarm, the Neye II, the flow is in the Neyetalsperre jammed.

On March 18, 2015, more than 1.7 million liters of liquid manure flowed from the Halverner Hof Kotten via the Neye II into the Neyetalsperre. The stream and the fish ponds near Unterien will remain ecologically dead for years. The bank edge zones and parts of the Neyetalsperre are also badly ecologically damaged despite successful countermeasures.
