The municipality ( Local Municipality ) Ngqushwa is part of the Amathole District , Eastern Cape Province in South Africa . 72,190 inhabitants live in an area of ​​2,241 km² (as of 2011). The seat of the municipal administration is Peddie . Mayor is Mnikelo Siwisa.

The clicking sounds of the community name are supposed to remind of the Xhosa and Khoisan who lived there .
