Nguyen Xuan Huy

Nguyen Xuan Huy (* 1976 in Hanoi , Vietnam ) is a Vietnamese painter.

Life

Nguyen is the son of a Viet Cong fighter and a factory worker who worked as a guest worker in the GDR . He graduated from high school in Hanoi in 1992 and began studying architecture in his hometown. At the invitation of his mother, who remained in Germany, he went to Germany in 1994 to continue his studies there. From 1995 he attended a preparatory college in Nordhausen in Thuringia and began studying painting in 1996 at the Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design in Halle an der Saale . There he completed his studies in the fine arts in 2003 with distinction.

2001 to 2002 Nguyen spent as a student at the École des Beaux-Arts in Bordeaux . This was followed by postgraduate studies from 2004 to 2006 at his alma mater . In 2005, a scholarship enabled him to travel to his home country. There he recorded, among other things, the victims of the defoliant Agent Orange with a pen and camera . In the years that followed, the subject of people who were born deformed due to the damage to their parents' genetic makeup became a very important theme for the artist.

Since 1998 Nguyen has exhibited his works in solo and group exhibitions in Germany, Europe and the USA . He lives and works in Berlin. He is married. The couple had a son who was born healthy.
