The Nišava ( Cyrillic Нишава ) is a river in Bulgaria and southern Serbia .
The source is located below the summit of the Kom mountain ( 2016 m ) in the Stara Planina in Bulgaria. After 50 km the Nišava crosses the border to Serbia at Gradina , flows through Dimitrovgrad , Pirot , Niš and flows northwest of Niš into the Southern Morava . The total length of the river is 218 km and the catchment area 3,950 km².
The Nišava flows through several gorges, of which the Sićevo ( Sićevačka klisura ) is the most famous.
The river has given its name to Nishava Cove , a bay on Rugged Island in Antarctica , since 2006 .
