Nicholas Clay

Nicholas Clay (born September 18, 1946 in London , † May 25, 2000 there ) was an English actor .

life and career

Nicholas Clay, born in 1946, received his education at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London. He became known through film roles in the early 1980s. He had his breakthrough in 1981 in the role of Lancelot in the film Excalibur by John Boorman . In the same year he was also seen in Just Jaeckin's film adaptation of Lady Chatterley's Lover based on the novel by DH Lawrence . In 1982 he starred in the Agatha Christie film The Evil Under the Sun alongside Peter Ustinov , Maggie Smith , Jane Birkin , James Mason and Roddy McDowall . In 1987 he played in the fairy tale film Cannon Movie Tales: Sleeping Beauty the Prince and was allowed to kiss Tahnee Welch awake. In the last years of his life he taught acting at the Actors Center and the Academy of Live and Recorded Arts .

Since 1980 Clay was married to the actress Lorna Heilbron , with whom he had two daughters. He died of liver cancer in 2000 .
