action

Long ago in an enchanted kingdom lived a king and queen who dearly wanted a child. "Hide a red rose under your pillow, if it still has the strength to bloom, you will have a child in the course of a year," said an elf to the queen. Indeed it is. The queen has her child and calls it "Sleeping Beauty".

The king has a great festival. The whole country is invited to join in the celebration. But unfortunately there are only 8 golden plates in the castle kitchen. So there is not enough for the 9 fairies who are supposed to give their gifts to the children. The king has the fiery red fairy crossed off the list and lets the festival begin.

After everyone has fed, the fairies begin to distribute their gifts. But suddenly, before the last, the white fairy, can give her present, the hall door opens and the fiery red fairy steps in. Out of anger that she was not invited, she places a curse on the child: "The princess is supposed to stab herself on a spindle on her 16th birthday and drop dead." Then she disappears again. The white fairy steps out: “Be calm, Your Highness. It shouldn't be death, just a 100-year sleep from which she can only be awakened by a kiss, "she says. Fearing for his daughter, the king had all the spindles burned in the country.

16 years later ... The whole court complains to the king that all the robes are torn and torn because no more yarn is made for fabric. Sleeping Beauty has the good idea that you can go to another kingdom and get fabrics from there. So the king and queen set off on their journey.

Sleeping Beauty explores the castle and finds a secret door in the bushes that leads to a small overgrown tower. She climbs the steep spiral staircase until she comes to a door at the top. She opens the door. In the little room there is an old woman with a spinning wheel. Sleeping Beauty looks at the strange apparatus in amazement. “Come here and sit down in my place,” says the old woman. Sleeping Beauty puts her foot on the pedal and starts. Suddenly, as she wraps the thread around the spindle, she stabs her finger. The old woman starts to laugh scornfully and Sleeping Beauty closes her eyes forever.

The white fairy enchants the whole castle so that everyone sleeps with Sleeping Beauty, then she lifts her magic wand and suddenly a huge hedge of thorns grows around the whole castle. Only the elf stays awake to take care of Sleeping Beauty.

After 100 years a prince comes and wants to see the castle, he fights his way through the thorn hedge with his sword. When he comes to Sleeping Beauty's bedchamber, he kisses the sleeping beauty. She opens her eyes and looks at him kindly. Shortly afterwards the whole castle wakes up.

What happens now? The spinners are spinning wool again, the weavers are weaving precious clothes and the court is delighted with the splendor of new garments ... and Sleeping Beauty - she has got her prince and will hopefully be very, very happy.

criticism

"Very American perceived, elaborately designed as a kind of show musical film adaptation of Grimm's folk tale, which was made in Israel because of the production costs and, despite the announcement, never came to our cinemas."

“One of the numerous American film adaptations of the Grimm Brothers' fairy tale of the same name, of which the cartoon version of the Disney Studios (1958) remained the best known. The film was the prelude to a large-scale series initiated by producers Menahem Golan and Yoram Globus and produced for the world market on video and for TV. Snow White became the most popular film in the series. The elaborate film adaptation of Sleeping Beauty is particularly concerned with the decor of the magic forest. "
