Cannon Movie Tales: Hansel and Gretel ( Cannon Movie Tales: Hansel and Gretel ) is a fairy tale film by the American director Len Talan from 1987. It was produced extensively for the American fairy tale film series "Cannon Movie Tales".
action
The northern forests have always been avoided by the villagers. It is said that monsters, ghosts, monsters and witches live in it. Hansel and Gretel live with their father and mother in a small house, right on the edge of this dark forest. They hardly have anything to eat and so they lead a meager life.
The mother sends Hansel and Gretel to look for berries when the father is not in the house. You run into the forest, which is getting thicker and thicker. Soon the sunlight disappears behind the leaves. Hansel sprinkles breadcrumbs on the way so that they can find their way home again. The breadcrumbs will soon be eaten by a hungry bird. They spend the night in the forest, where they hear eerie laughter from behind the trees.
The mother, who has already noticed that her children are no longer coming home, also tells the father. In desperation, they run into the forest to find their children. They call for them, but the dense forest hardly lets a sound through.
The next morning Hansel and Gretel wake up. You go on and soon come to a house made entirely of sugar and sweets. They are full of joy on this sugar mountain. Suddenly an old woman comes out of the house. It is the good grandmother Griselda who lives in this little house. She invites the children in and gives them plenty to eat. Then both get a room for the night.
During the night Gretel wakes up, hears voices from the cellar and goes downstairs. Old Griselda had only been so friendly. She is a wicked witch who feeds on young children. She locks Hansel in a cage and Gretel has to cook him food every day. When Hansel has grown fat, the witch ties him to a hook and tries to put him in the oven. But Gretel soon finds the witch's wand and uses it to conjure the witch in the oven. Hansel and Gretel are free again.
criticism
“Elaborate film adaptation of the famous folk tale by the Brothers Grimm, which refers to plot elements of the fairy tale opera of the same name by Humperdinck. Cruelty is avoided and the film certainly offers some visual highlights, but at the same time it ties in all too homely to technically and educationally outdated fairy tale film productions of the 30s. Delicious (albeit quite scary for smaller children): Cloris Leachman as the wicked witch. "
