action
A rich merchant lives happily ever after with his five children in a large house in the country. His greatest sanctuary is his youngest daughter Bella, who lovingly takes care of her father and four siblings. When the merchant loses one of his ships, he has to sell the house and move into a little house in the forest with his children. When the ship suddenly appears again, the merchant embarks on a long journey. Before that, he promises his daughter Bella to take a rose for her. On the way home, the merchant gets caught in a terrible storm and comes to an apparently abandoned castle. The most beautiful roses grow in the garden of the castle and so he picks one to keep the promise made. Suddenly a huge monster appears. The merchant can only keep his life if he leaves one of his daughters to the monster for it. Once at home, the beautiful Bella immediately realizes that her rose is to blame for the misfortune. And so, with a heavy heart, she moves into the monster's eerie castle. Time goes by and Bella spends two full years at the monster's castle. And every evening at dinner, the monster asks her if Bella doesn't want to be his wife and beautiful Bella always says "no"! But every night in a dream, Bella meets a young, beautiful prince, with whom she soon falls in love. However, the latter says she must look for him and listen to her heart. The monster fulfills Bella's every wish so that she is not lonely. However, Bella's greatest wish is to see her father and siblings again. She promises the monster that she will be back in a month after visiting her family. If she isn't back in a month, the monster should die. In the joy of seeing her family again, Bella forgets that the month has already passed. Completely out of breath, she rides back into the castle and finds the monster half dead in the castle garden. She says that she loves it and wants to get married and suddenly the monster becomes the young prince whom she knows from her dreams.
criticism
"Filming of the artistic, poetic fairy tale by Leprince de Beaumont from the series of Cannon children's film productions, which focuses more on external visual values than on the content of the fable."
