action

A miller once lived in a distant country with his daughter Katie. According to her father, Katie can spin straw into gold. This comes to the ears of the gold-hungry King Mezzer. Katie is locked in a dark room and is supposed to spin a bale of straw into gold. A little man appears there who will do the work for her when she gives him the ring on her finger. The next morning the whole bale is spun into gold. The king, however, wants more and so she has to spend a second night in the chamber. This time with two bales of straw. Again the male helps and asks for the chain around her neck. The next day all straw is spun into gold. The king is still not satisfied. Another chamber is filled with straw from top to bottom. If she turns everything into straw, she should become the wife of the prince, with whom she has already fallen in love. The male is ready to help her one more time when he has her first-born child. Katie promises him this and so all straw is spun into gold.

Katie and the Prince get married and their first child will soon be born. Then the little man appears and wants to claim it. Katie doesn't want to give that to him, however. The male promises her that she can keep the child if she guesses his name. At the end she guesses: Rumpelstiltskin. Out of anger, it hits the ground so hard that it sinks. So she can keep her child and lives happily ever after.
