Trevor Howard
Trevor Wallace Howard (born September 29, 1913 in Cliftonville , Kent , England , † January 7, 1988 in Bushey , Hertfordshire ) was a British theater and film actor. Howard was one of the most prominent English-speaking character actors for decades and has appeared in numerous film classics.
Life
Trevor Howard's father was English and his mother Canadian, of Scottish descent. Shortly after his birth, his parents moved to Colombo on Ceylon . Here he grew up until he was eight years old. He then attended Clifton College in England, where Michael Redgrave was one of his classmates. After graduating from high school, Howard attended London's Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and caused a sensation when he starred on a London stage in his senior year. Until the outbreak of the war he was almost exclusively in classical roles on various London stages, finally at the Old Vic and from 1939 he was a member of the Shakespeare ensemble in Stratford-upon-Avon .
During World War II he served as a paratrooper in Norway and Sicily . He was married to actress Helen Cherry since 1944 .
Roll compartment
Trevor Howard's career has spanned a broad role development. At the beginning of his film career, he can be seen frequently as a British officer, and in the 1950s as a romantic hero. Thereafter, his talent for broken heroes and cryptic characters crystallized, including roles in which the character's weaknesses seem inextricably linked to his eventual miserable failure. With increasing age and the increasingly pronounced gnarled physiognomy, he sketches comical, weird old people and strange characters as well as strong drawings of historical figures, for example:
- In the classic film The Third Man (1949) Trevor Howard played the British Major Calloway.
- In the Graham Greene film version The Heart of the Matter (The Heart of the Matter) (1953) with Maria Schell he was the guilty Hartry Scobie.
- In Lewis Milestones remake Mutiny on the Bounty (Mutiny on the Bounty) (1962) he played the role of Captain Bligh on the side of Marlon Brando .
- In Colonel von Ryan's Express (1965) directed by Mark Robson , he shot on the side of Frank Sinatra .
- In Ryan's Daughter (1970) by David Lean, he was the peasant priest Father Collins.
- In Ludwig II. (1972) he placed under Luchino Visconti Directed by Richard Wagner is as erroneous character as well brilliant composer.
- In Gandhi (1982) by Richard Attenborough , he played the supporting role of Judge Broomfield.

Quotes
"I've been number two in films for donkey's years."
"In the film I only played second fiddle for three days and forever."
“Trevor was never intentionally cruel or any thing like that, but he could appear uncaring. He did have a dark side. We all have it. If you have a light side, you must have a dark side too. One goes with the other. It's his light side that I always think about. That was captivating. "
“Trevor was never intentionally mean or anything, but he could come across as callous. He had a dark side. We all have them. If you have a good side, there has to be a dark side. They belong together. I only think about his good side. It was adorable. "
“If Trevor had been on marijuana instead of drink while we were in Dingle he would have been a lot happier. You could tell immediately if Trevor was on dope or alcohol. He was so divinely easy and joyful on marijuana and so cantankerous on drink. I could always tell what Trevor had been taking. Marijuana suited him in a way that booze never did. "
“If Trevor had been on marijuana instead of alcohol while we were in Dingle, he would have been a lot happier. You could tell immediately if Trevor was on drugs or alcohol. He was so divinely laid back and joyful with marijuana, but so in a bad mood with alcohol. I could always tell what he took. Marijuana suited him, as opposed to alcohol. "
