Nick Abadzis (* 1965 in Sweden ) is a British cartoonist and graphic novel writer .

Life

Abadzis came from a Greek-British family and grew up in Sweden, England and Switzerland. In 1987 he was hired by Marvel Comics in Great Britain as the youngest editor to date. The following year he went into business for himself and worked for the no longer existing British comic magazine Deadline . He created the stick figure Hugo Tate for the magazine , which appeared there from 1988 to 1994. A collection of his stories was published as a book in 1993, entitled Hugo Tate: O, America . A second character from Deadline is Mr. Pleebus , who was also included in four of his children's books from 1998 to 2001.

Abadzis' greatest success in 2007 was the graphic novel Laika , which depicts the last phase of the life of the first living being sent into space. Laika has been award-winning and published internationally. The artist has worked for weekly and daily newspapers such as The Guardian , The Times and The Sunday Correspondent . He is a consultant in the field of children's books for various British publishers. He wrote some texts for the television series Bob the Builder , a stop-motion film adaptation.

In 2010 Abadzis moved from London to New York City .
