Bob the Builder ( English Bob the Builder ; Swiss German Bob de Boumaa ) is a television series for children with animated characters.

The series was developed by Hot Animation, HiT Entertainment and BBC Television over a three-year phase based on an idea by Keith Chapman. The first episode premiered on November 28, 1998 on the BBC. The series is now broadcast in more than 100 countries. Start in Germany was on October 23, 1999; since then, 117 episodes of the first season and 41 episodes of the second season have been broadcast. In addition to the television programs, the stories of Bob the Builder and his team are also available as radio plays , on DVD and VHS .

In some cases, the title of the program was given additions. So she ran in parts as Bob, the builder - attention construction site! or Bob the builder - helmets on and go! .

The characters were originally animated using stop-motion film technology. From the 19th season, this technology was completely replaced by the CGI process. All figures received a complete makeover .

Content and structure

Each episode is about ten minutes long. Bob the builder runs a building yard in Bobhausen. Together with his partner Wendy and the talking vehicles and devices, he does all the work that arises in the small community. Conflict resolution, teamwork, social behavior and other skills are in the foreground. These skills are taught through stories ranging from repairing, building, digging, painting, plumbing to gardening. Bob and his team are always there when they are needed. The doubtful question “Can we fix it?” (“Can we fix it?”) Is usually answered in chorus with a confident “Yo, we can do it!” (“ Yes we can !”). There is no realistic representation of manual activities. In the tenth season of the series, Bob takes on the task of building a new city in Sunflower Valley. He received the contract after winning a competition. This season both new machines and people are brought into the plot. The principle under which the Sunflower Valley is built is "reduce, recycle , reuse". Many solar systems are also being built and houses are being integrated into nature in an ecologically sensible way.

The first episode of the 19th season was broadcast on January 11, 2016 by Super RTL. From this season onwards, the entire design of the series has been adapted in line with the times: so all figures got a new look. In addition, Leo, Bob's new apprentice, was added as another main character. In addition, the series now takes place in the new town of Hochhausen.
