Nicholas Oliver Llewellyn Evans (born August 14, 1980 in North Shore ) is a New Zealand rugby union player. He plays in the positions of liaison half and goalkeeper . Until his move to the English Guinness Premiership team Harlequins, according to widespread opinion, he was the second choice as a connector with the All Blacks, behind Daniel Carter of the Crusaders .

Career

Evans went to Westlake Boys High School , where he first played as a liaison half for his school selection. He also played Australian Rules Football at his school . Evans was appointed to the New Zealand U-21s and the Senior Australian Rules Football team, where he played against national teams from the Australian states. He was also presented with a contract with the Sydney Swans . But Evans was too small for professional Aussie rules at 180 cm . He finally decided on rugby union and played for the Highlanders and Blues in the Super 14 and for Otago and North Harbor in the National Provincial Championship .

Evans is said to have wonderful ball carrying and passing skills, a precise right foot, explosive kicks and an excellent game overview.

Having experienced provincial and super rugby, Nick Evans made his All Blacks debut in 2004 at the age of 23 against England . On May 25, 2007, Evans announced that he would not renew his contract with Otago, but would rather sign with an association that is closer to his family in North Shore. But he also didn't rule out the possibility that if he didn't get into the All Blacks squad for the World Cup, he would be one of many New Zealand rugby players going to Europe. Evans was nominated for the squad as expected and knew how to convince in his three World Cup appearances. Following the World Cup, he decided to switch to the Auckland Blues.

After only one season with the Blues, however, he switched to the English Guinness Premiership in 2008 with the Harlequins from Twickenham in London . In the Heineken Cup , the team beat Stade Français thanks to a drop goal from Evans in stoppage time . It had previously won the first leg in Paris in a dramatic way. At the end of the year, Evans gave the Harlequins another sense of achievement with a kick in the last second, which was able to achieve a draw against the Leicester Tigers .
