Nicolas de Luce
Nicolas de Luce (born November 16, 1726 in Pruntrut , † March 24, 1784 in Bellelay ) was a Swiss Premonstratensian abbot .
Life
De Luce (or Deluce) was the son of an officer and bag master in the Principality of Basel . He attended the college in Pruntrut and studied theology in Besançon . In 1748 he entered the Bellelay monastery and was ordained a priest in 1751. He was then subprior, then prior and novice master until he was elected abbot in 1771 . In 1772 he founded the college and boarding school of Bellelay, which developed into an educational center for the sons of the European nobility, especially Alsace , but also from the Catholic federal locations, and existed until the abbey was dissolved as a result of the French Revolution in 1798. He also had an orphanage built for girls.
