The Lower Austrian Transport Organization mbH (short NÖVOG ) is a transport company based in St. Pölten . From 1993 on, NÖVOG was responsible for the planning and operation of the Wiesel buses, and Wiesel railways as well as mountain, regional and narrow-gauge railways in Lower Austria were added later . Responsibility for the bus routes was transferred to the Verkehrsverbund Ostregion (VOR) in mid-2018 , and the company has since positioned itself more strongly as a railway company in regional development.
history
NÖVOG was founded in 1993 to prepare fast bus routes to the then new state capital St. Pölten . In 1996, NÖVOG put the Wieselbuses into operation, concluded transport service contracts with the ÖBB and founded the NÖ Schneebergbahn GmbH (NÖSBB), which is responsible for the operation of the cog railway .
In 2001, NÖVOG resumed tourism on the Waldviertlerbahn between Gmünd and Groß Gerungs and in 2006 between Gmünd and Litschau . In 2002 the "Phylloxera Express" was started on the Retz – Drosendorf local railway . In 2005 the Salamander chairlift was opened on the Schneeberg . In 2007 the Ötscherbär tourist train on the Mariazellerbahn went into operation .
At the end of 2010, NÖVOG took over several regional railways from ÖBB , including the remainder of the Ybbstalbahn , the Mariazellerbahn and the Wachaubahn , which continued to be operated as the “Citybahn Waidhofen” . Since then, the narrow-gauge lines have been operated independently and the standard-gauge lines in cooperation with licensed railway companies ( Wiener Lokalbahnen ), since NÖVOG itself is not licensed to operate standard-gauge railways .
On June 30, 2018, responsibility for the eleven Wiesel express bus routes was transferred from NÖVOG to the Verkehrsverbund Ost-Region (VOR). Timetables, routes and fares remained unchanged for the time being.
Companies
The object of the company of NÖVOG is the organization of regional public transport in Lower Austria , in particular the planning and operation of public railway lines and the associated management of real estate and participation in companies. The offer of the NÖVOG includes a railway network of around 630 km, of which 380 km are currently used for commuter, tourism and freight traffic. Responsibility for the eleven Wieselbus express bus routes was handed over to the Verkehrsverbund Ost-Region in mid-2018. For this purpose, the railway operations are to be expanded and further regional and local railways are to be taken over by the ÖBB . Negotiations are in progress regarding the Kamptalbahn , the Schneebergbahn from Wiener Neustadt to Puchberg, the Gänserndorf – Mistelbach local train and the Stammersdorfer local train .
Barbara Komarek has been the managing director since October 1, 2018. She replaced Gerhard Stingl as managing director.
