The low Dielfener viaduct is one of three engineering major buildings in the northern section of the dill distance between Siegen and Haiger on the territory of today's local part Niederdielfen in the municipality Wilnsdorf , between the stations Niederdielfen (now without passengers) and victories in the range of route kilometers 111.0.
history
Due to the difficult topography and the limited technical possibilities, a direct connection between Siegen , Haiger and also Dillenburg was not yet possible at the time of the construction of the Deutz-Gießener Bahn from today's Cologne-Deutz to Gießen in the 1850s. This direct connection between Siegen and Haiger was not completed until 1915. This was particularly advantageous for the coal traffic going south from the Ruhr area . This shortened the route by about 30 km. This shortened route was made possible by three large engineering structures: the Niederdielfen Viaduct, the Rudersdorfer Viaduct and the Rudersdorfer Tunnel .
Building
The Niederdielfen Viaduct is a monumental structure made up of seven high round arches that crosses the Aubach Valley and the L 723 and L 893 state roads in the middle of the town in an approximately east-west direction . The exterior cladding of the bridge, which defines the monumental appearance, consists of brickwork made of bossed blocks . The Dill route across the viaduct is double-track and has been electrified since 1965 .
