Lower Hessian , whose dialects are mainly spoken in the administrative district and in the independent city of Kassel , is a dialect group of West Central German . The Lower Hessian broadly comprises two dialects:
- North Hessian with the center of Kassel, which in the direction of the Hessian border with Lower Saxony and Thuringia has a lot in common with the North Thuringian and Eichsfeldic and is therefore amixed dialect of Rhenish Franconia and Thuringian-Upper Saxon , which also has Low German influences from the west.
- East Hessian with the center of Fulda , which, due to its proximity to East Franconian , has more Franconian features than North Hessian , as itmixeswith the adjacent Hennebergisch and in the Rhön with the Grabfeldisch for the Rhöner Platt .
