North Hessian is a West Central German dialect that is spoken in North Hesse . The center of the dialect area is Kassel , the local variant is called Kasselänerisch or Kasselänisch.
The dialect border to Low German runs west and north along a line between Göttingen , Hofgeismar and Waldeck . At Eschwege , the North Hessian merges into the North Thuringian . The southern dialect border to East Hessian and Upper Hesse forms the Schwalm .
In the northern and eastern dialect area on the borders with Lower Saxony and Thuringia , North Hessian has a lot in common with North Thuringian and Eichsfeld . It is therefore a Rhine-Franconian and Thuringian-Upper Saxon mixed dialect, which also has Low German influences from the west.
