life and work

Niek Kemps was born in Nijmegen in 1952 and studied from 1972 to 1977 at the Academie voor Beeldende Kunsten in Arnhem . For seven years he was a lecturer at the Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten in Amsterdam. Niek Kemps lives and works in Amsterdam and Wenduine on the Belgian coast.

“Kemp's sculptures open up or are transparent, so that the observer can penetrate the work. Through a seductive play of attraction and repulsion, the viewer and the environment are absorbed into the work and dissolved. The colors are often tempting, deep and at the same time repelling due to their hard sheen. Then it turns out that the interior is not a center, but a passage. "
