The corvette Niels Juel (F 354) was a warship of the Danish Navy . In the NATO classification, the ship was classified as a frigate . She was the type ship of the Niels Juel class , which, in addition to the ship that gave it its name, also included the corvettes Olfert Fischer and Peter Tordenskiold . The Niels Juel was named after the Danish admiral Niels Juel .

history

The ship was laid down in 1977 and has been in service since August 26, 1980. The frigate took part in the international surveillance of the coasts of the former Yugoslavia in the 1990s . From 1998 to 2000, the ship's electrical and electronic systems and weapons systems were modernized in order to keep it in service for longer.

The ship took part in the STANAVFORLANT and its Operation Sharp Guard four times . In 1992 and 1993 and from 1995 to 1997 she was part of the fleet that enforced the arms embargo against Serbia .

The Niels Juel was one as the other two corvettes in its class for the second squadron of the Danish Navy. The ship was launched in March 2009 and decommissioned on August 18, 2009. Her successor, an Iver Huitfeldt class frigate , was still under construction at the time.
