Niels Pfannenschmidt (born March 21, 1974 in Minden ) is a German handball trainer and former handball player .

He played actively handball for TSV Hahlen , VfL Mennighüffen and HSG Nordhemmern / Mindenerwald .

Pfannenschmidt's first coaching position was at HSG Nordhemmern / Mindenerwald, for which he coached the women's team in the district league from February 1999. From 2003 he was responsible for the A-youth in the regional league and from 2004 for the second men's team. In 2006 he became coach of the first team playing in the regional league . In February he also took over as the successor to Detlef Meyer at the women's second division HSG Stemmer / Friedewalde , where he was replaced by Rainer Niemeyer after two months .

For the 2008/09 season he was hired by GWD Minden as an assistant coach of the Bundesliga team. In addition, he also looked after the second representation of Minden in the regional league. During this time he trained as an A-license coach at the German Handball Federation.

After two seasons he left GWD Minden and moved to TBV Lemgo as a youth coordinator . Here, too, he also took over the second team until he was appointed head coach of the TBV Bundesliga team at the beginning of the 2013/14 season. After leading Lemgo to ninth place in the 2013/14 season and defeating THW Kiel at the beginning of the 2014/15 season , he was dismissed after a series of defeats in December 2014 and replaced by his assistant coach Florian Kehrmann . From July 1, 2015, he coached ASV Hamm 04/69 handball . After Pfannenschmidt was released from ASV Hamm in February 2017, he took over third division club VfL Eintracht Hagen that same month . Under his leadership, Hagen was promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga in 2017. He was on leave in June 2019.
