De Groot made his international debut in the 1998/99 season in the Ski Jumping Continental Cup . In the first season he achieved his first points successes and with a total of 51 points he was 127th in the overall ranking. At the Nordic World Ski Championships in 1999 in Ramsau am Dachstein , he started in the individual from the normal hill and reached 56th place. Although he didn't win any points in the Continental Cup at the beginning of the season, he made his debut in the Ski Jumping World Cup on February 26, 2000 in Iron Mountain . In both competitions, however, he clearly missed the points. In the summer of 2000, de Groot started in the ski jumping Grand Prix . The best result was a 35th place in Hakuba . After he had no chance in Kuopio at the beginning of the 2000/01 season , he took a year off from abroad before returning to the Continental Cup for the 2001/02 season. In Villach he was part of the team for the team world cup in December 2001 and together with Jeroen Nikkel , Boy van Baarle and Ingemar Mayr reached tenth and last place. However, he could no longer qualify for an individual World Cup. In January 2002 he was in Sapporo again for the Team World Cup and reached eleventh place with the team. After the 2001/02 season, de Groot ended his active ski jumping career.
