The Nienhäger See is a lake in the municipality of Lohmen in the Rostock district in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania within the Sternberger Seenland nature reserve . The eponymous district of Nienhagen is just under 200 meters south-east of the shore. The Bresenitz flows through the lake from east to northwest . Another ditch opens in the southwest.
The 9.5 hectare body of water does not form any temperature stratification at a maximum depth of almost one meter . The maximum dimensions of the water surface are 330 × 390 meters. In a publication on the nature park from 2011, a eutrophic , i.e. nutrient-loaded state is recorded.
The Nienhäger See is surrounded by a wide belt of reeds and siltation . The bittern , the loach and the bitterling were found in and around the water .
Trivia
The Nienhäger See is the setting for a legend. According to her, heathens are said to have sunk two bells from the Dobbertin monastery in it. They were undetectable for a long time, until they appeared regularly on the surface of the water, but disappeared again when approached. One day when the church bells were standing on the bank, it was impossible to bring them to Nienhagen by means of four horses harnessed to a wagon. Two oxen of a farmer who intended to bring the bells to Dobbertin pulled the load with ease.
