Nigel Napier, 14th Lord Napier
Francis Nigel Napier, 14th Lord Napier, 5th Baron Ettrick KCVO DL (born December 5, 1930 in Berwick-upon-Tweed , † March 15, 2012 ) was a Scottish nobleman, member of the House of Lords and officer.
family
He was the son of Lt. Col. William Francis Cyril James Hamilton Napier, 13th Lord Napier, 4th Baron Ettrick and his wife Violet Muir nee Newson, daughter of Sir Percy Wilson Newson, 1st Baronet. Nigel Napier married Delia Mary née Pearson in 1958. The marriage resulted in two sons and two daughters, including the title heir Francis David Charles Napier, 15th Lord Napier (* 1962).
Life
He visited Eton and then embarked on a military career. He visited Sandhurst and served in the Scots Guards in Malaysia from 1950 . When his father died in 1954, he inherited his title as 14th Lord Napier , 5th Baron Ettrick, and 11th Baronet Scott, of Thirlestane and the seat in the House of Lords associated with the baron title. He also became head of the Napier clan . After his retirement as an officer, he was from 1958 to 1960 Equerry ( stable master ) of Henry, Duke of Gloucester , and from 1973 to 1998 private secretary to Princess Margaret . He continued to be their treasurer until his death. His entitlement to a seat in the House of Lords expired in 1999 under the House of Lords Act .
