Nikephoros ( Middle Greek Νικηφόρος , * after 717; † after 742/43 in Constantinople ?) Was probably the second son of the Byzantine counter-emperor Artabasdos (741 / 42–743) and his wife Anna. After the successful usurpation of his father against Constantine V, he was raised to the rank of co-emperor ( basileus ) . The date of the survey, 741 or 742/43, is controversial in research. After November 2, 743, the day of the reconquest of Constantinople by Constantine V, Nikephoros was blinded together with Artabasdos and his older brother Niketas , presented in the hippodrome and, according to the legendary vita of Michael Synkellos , went to Chora with the whole family . Banished monastery , where he is said to have died and was buried.
