Nikhil Seth is an Indian diplomat and has been the Executive Director of the United Nations Institute of Education and Research (UNITAR) since 2015 .

Career

Seth initially worked as a lecturer at St. Stephen College at the University of Delhi from 1977 to 1979, before joining the Indian diplomatic service in 1980. He worked in the representations in Geneva , the Democratic Republic of the Congo , the Central African Republic , Gabon and Equatorial Guinea . From 1990 to 1993 he was a member of the Permanent Mission of India to the United Nations , including at the 1992 Rio Conference .

In 1993 Seth moved to the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), where he was most recently director of the coordinating office from 2006 to 2011. Seth became Director of Sustainable Development in the Economic and Social Department (DESA) of the United Nations Secretariat. He was head of the Rio + 20 Secretariat and was responsible for the agenda that prepared the 2015 World Summit on Sustainable Development in Rio de Janeiro and the 2015 UN Climate Change Conference in Paris .

On June 8, 2015 Nikhil Seth was the UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon as Assistant Secretary-General and the successor to the Irish as Executive Director of (2012-2015) Sally Fegan-Wyles training and United Nations Research Institute appointed (UNITAR) . He is therefore also responsible for the UNOSAT satellite observation program, which UNITAR operates in Geneva in cooperation with the United Nations Development Program (UNOPS) and the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) .

Private

Seth is married and has two children. He is a declared supporter of the International Gender Champions initiative , which aims to achieve gender equality in international institutions.
