UNOSAT (of UN ITAR's O perational Sat ellite Applications Program ) is the satellite observation program of education and the United Nations Research Institute (UNITAR) in collaboration with the Development Program of the United Nations (UNOPS) and the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) in Geneva .

UNOSAT has the task of providing free satellite images and maps for security, peace and socio-economic development. The mandate is based on a mandate from the UN General Assembly from 1963.

The launch of its own satellite failed in August 2003 in the Brazilian rocket explosion .
