Nikolai Kuzmich Klykov ( Russian Николай Кузьмич Клыков ., Scientific transliteration Nikolaj Kuz'mič Klykov ; born June 12 ^jul. / 24. June  1888 ^greg. In Borovsk ; † 29. April 1968 in Moscow ) was a Soviet general .

Life

Klykov did military service in the Tsarist army from 1914 during the First World War . He attended the officers' school in 1915 and then served as platoon and company commander , as well as assistant to a regimental commander on the western and northwestern fronts. When the October Revolution broke out , he had attained the rank of captain of staff .

In 1918, Klykov joined the Red Army and in 1919 the Communist Party . During the Russian Civil War he served in the same functions as in World War I, but also rose to become regimental and brigade commander . At the end of the civil war in 1921 he commanded some units that were involved in the suppression of the Kronstadt sailors' uprising .

After the civil war, Klykov continued to serve as regimental commander, but then rose to become an assistant to a commander in a rifle division . This was followed by a position as city commander of Moscow and as a department head on the staff of the Moscow military district . In these years he received in 1926 a deeper training as a commander and in 1929 completed advanced courses at the Frunze Military Academy . From March 1931 to March 1937 he was employed as a commander of a rifle division before he was appointed head of military training at the 1st Moscow State University. From August 1937 he fulfilled the same function in the entire Moscow military district. He remained active in the same area until 1941.

When the German-Soviet War broke out , Klykow was appointed commander of the 32nd Army in July 1941. This he commanded only briefly before he took over command of the newly formed 52nd Army. This he commanded successfully in November / December 1941 during the battle for Tikhvin . In the following Volkhov battle , he commanded the 2nd shock army from January to April 1942. When he became seriously ill, Klykov was replaced by General AA Vlasov . It was not until December 1942 that Klykov was given a new command as Deputy Commander in Chief of the Volkhov Front . In this post he influenced the Second Ladoga Battle in the winter of 1943 . In June 1943, Klykov was finally appointed deputy commander of the Moscow Military District and in April 1944 finally appointed Commander of the Troops of the North Caucasian Military District . In December 1945, at the age of 57, he retired from active service due to health problems.
