Nikolai Sergeevich Apalikov ( Russian: Николай Сергеевич Апаликов , English transcription: Nikolay Sergeevich Apalikov ; born August 26, 1982 in Orsk ) is a Russian volleyball player and Olympic champion .

Career

Apalikow started his career at the club in his hometown. In 2000 he went to Lokomotiv-Izumrud Yekaterinburg and won the national cup there. In 2001 he was runner-up with the Russian Association. In 2004 the middle blocker reached third place in the CEV Cup with Yekaterinburg . On June 4, 2005 he made his debut in the Russian national team , which ended a little later in the final of the European Championship , which ended with a 2-3 defeat against Italy . After winning the Cup again in 2007, Apalikow moved to league rivals VK Zenit-Kazan . He also won the cup in 2008 with his new club. In 2009 Kazan won the first of four consecutive championship titles with Apalikov and also the Champions League . Two years later, the Russians lost in the final of this competition against Trentino Volley . With the national team, however, the middle blocker was successful in the world league and the World Cup . In 2012 Apalikow won his second Champions League title in the final against Skra Bełchatów . He then became Olympic champion in London . In 2013 he became European champion and again winner of the world league . In 2014 Apalikow was again Russian champion with Zenit Kazan.
