Nikolai Vasilyevich Pushkov

Nikolai Wassiljewitsch Puschkow ( Russian: Николай Васильевич Пушков ; born May 17, 1903 in Druzhno , Dmitrovsk Rajon near Orjol ; † January 29, 1981 in Troitsk , Moscow Oblast ) was a Soviet geophysicist and founder of ISMIRAN (Institute for Earth Magnetism and Dissemination) Radio waves named after NW Pushkov of the Soviet Academy of Sciences) in Troitsk .

Life

Nikolai Pushkov studied at the Moscow State University and the Hydrometeorological Institute in Moscow. From 1931 he conducted research at the Main Geophysical Observatory of the Hydrometeorological Service of the USSR. From 1934 to 1937 he worked at the Pavlovsk Magnetic Observatory . In 1937 he was appointed head of the observatory, and in 1940 director of the newly founded ISMIRAN, which he remained until 1969.

In 1960 he received the Lenin Prize together with Sergei Wernow , Alexander Tschudakow , Schmaja Dolginow for researching the Van Allen Belt and the Earth's magnetic field .
